Tim Henman calls for higher prize money in lower-tier events

Tim Henman, a former top player from Britain, said that it is the right time to increase the payouts for lower-tier events such as in Challenger tournaments and ITF_level events.

“Twenty-three years on, the Challenger tournaments are still paying exactly the same money that they were then,” Henman was quoted by the The Telegraph. “Players need to look at their own tours, which are run separately from the slams, and ask why they haven’t improved the funds on offer.”

“People need to know that they can make a living. We are losing a lot of the best athletes to other sports at the age of seven or eight, which is exactly the time when you want to get a racket into their hand,” he added.
