French Open 2013: Juan Martin Del Potro withdraws from Roland Garros

Argentina’s Juan Martin del Potro has withdrawn from the upcoming French Open 2013 tournament because of a virus that has been affecting him during the European clay season.

“This is a tough blow, because these are the events you dream of winning,” del Potro said.

“Now I must get over this disappointment and recover completely in order to prepare at 100 per cent for the tests to come,” he added.

Del Potro, who won one Grand Slam singles title at the 2009 US Open, missed the Portugal Open and Madrid Masters due to the viral condition. He participated at last week’s Rome Masters where he lost in the third round to France’s Benoit Paire.

Del Potro’s best finish at the Roland Garros tournament was in the semifinals in 2009.
