Serena Williams rolls in Italian Open semifinals, routs Navarro

World number one Serena Williams defeated Spain’s Carla Suarez Navarro 6-2, 6-0 to advance to the Italian Open 2013 semifinals. The win has extended Williams’ winning streak to a career-best 22 matches.

The American won 21 matches in a row twice before, in 2002 and 2003.

“I’ve been pretty consistent, and pretty healthy — knock on wood,” Williams said. “I feel great — never felt better.”

Williams will next face Romanian qualifier Simona Halep, who defeated two-time winner Jelena Jankovic, in the semifinals.

Serena has won the Italian Open once in 2002 where she defeated Justin Henin in the final. She went on to win the Roland Garros 2002 tournament after that.
