Andy Murray gets featured in new BBC documentary

World number two Andy Murray of Great Britain will be featured via a new BBC documentary which chronicled the British tennis star’s journey in the past 12 months on the ATP World Tour.

The documentary is entitled “Andy Murray: The Man Behind The Racquet.” This hour-long program follows Murray since his heartbreaking runner-up finish at the Wimbledon Championships in July 2012 through his most recent grasscourt event victory at the Aegon Championships at the Queen’s Club two weeks ago. Other highlights of the show include his gold medal finish at the London Olympics singles where he avenged his Wimbledon loss to Roger Federer by beating the Swiss star at the same stage at the All England Club.

Viewers will get to see behind-the-scenes footages of Murray’s life on and off the court, including a homecoming event in Dunblane and his sessions in preparation for matches such as going to gym for physiology sessions and even pilates.

Documentary Diretor Jo McCusker was quoted by Radio Times saying that the show features an “ordinary lad who has become extraordinary.”

“You don’t see anything flash because he doesn’t do anything flash,” he said.

“He doesn’t drink, doesn’t smoke, doesn’t go out. And it all comes back to one word, mentioned by everyone we spoke to – ‘ordinary’. This ordinariness, this humbleness, an ordinary lad who has become extraordinary,” he added.

There’s also interviews featuring some of the world’s best players including Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, Andre Agassi, John McEnroe among others. Fans will get to see insight from Murray’s family, friends and even fellow fans who are popular in their respective fields such as actor Kevin Spacey, fashion icon Anna Wintour and others.

“The Man Behind The Racquet’ will be shown on Sunday via BBC1.
