David Ferrer aiming for own Grand Slam achievement

World number five David Ferrer has been in the brink of reaching a Grand Slam final five times in the past, all of those opportunities were stalled by higher ranked players. Now, the Spaniard is on his 42nd Major Tournament and he is faced with the task of battling against hometown favorite Jo-Wilfried Tsonga at the French Open 2013 semifinals. Should the Spaniard get past Tsonga, it will be the first time in his career to reach a Grand Slam final.

Ferrer has now equalled Briton Tim Henman‘s run in six Grand Slam semifinals. The question is, will he also equal Henman’s unsuccesful bid to reach a Grand Slam final? Henman has reached six Grand Slam semifinals but he has since retired and the dream was no more.

“I made it to the semi-finals. That’s the second time in my career (here). I’m very happy about this. I feel in very good shape at the moment,” Ferrer said.

“Today all players reaching this level in a tournament, to me, are at the same level. So I don’t want to think about it. I want to make it as far as possible. Was it a good draw or not? I don’t know. I have to win all my matches. It’s difficult. You’re playing against the best players in the world. The four best players in the world were the best players in the world so far, but any player can make it to the semi-final,” he added.

Ferrer has a 2-1 head to head series lead against Tsonga but then again this is a different match altogether.
