Federer doesn’t “shy away” from tough draws

Defending champion Roger Federer said that he’s always ready to face the challenges along the way in meeting tough opponents in earlier rounds in any tournament, the same thing that will happen at the Wimbledon 2013 Championships which begin on Monday, June 24.

The Swiss star could potentially meet Rafael Nadal in the quarterfinals and last year’s runner-up Andy Murray in the semifinals and top-ranked Novak Djokovic in the final.

“I like tough draws. I don’t shy away from them. There’s no control over it. All you can control as a tennis player is who you play and who you face. I have a very difficult draw with Rafa being in my quarter,” Federer said.

“My focus is on the first round. If you want to win the tournament here, you have to beat the best. That’s what I’m here for. I’m very happy to be back, no doubt about it. It’s always a privilege,” he added.

Federer will face Victor Hanescu of Romania in the first round on Monday.
