Nadal not aiming to overtake Federer’s 17 Slam haul

Eight-time Roland Garros champion Rafael Nadal said in an interview with Spanish sports news daily Marca that he has no plans of overtaking Roger Federer‘s 17 Grand Slam singles title haul.

“It is something that right now I see as light years away, it is not something I am planning,” Nadal was quoted as saying.

Nadal has been in remarkable form since his return at the ATP Tour in February. He has reached nine consecutive finals, winning seven tournaments including the French Open 2013 title which he successfully defended. He’s the only player in history to win eight titles on the same Grand Slam event. His total Grand Slam singles haul is now at 12.

Nadal is now aiming to win his third Wimbledon title. The Wimbledon Championships will begin on June 24. It can be remembered that prior to his break on tour to nurse a recurring knee injury, he was bounced out of the Wimbledon second round by Czech Lukas Rosol.

The Spaniard has opted to skip warm up grasscourt tournaments, pulling out of the Gerry Weber Open this week in Halle, Germany to rest after a very busy schedule.
