Novak Djokovic eliminates last American in Wimbledon men’s draw

World number one Novak Djokovic continues his journey at the Wimbledon 2013 Championships with an easy second round win over American qualifier Bobby Reynolds 7-6, 6-3, 6-1 on Thursday. While other matches on the other courts were suspended due to rain, theirs continued because the match was played under closed Centre Court roof at the All England Club.

Up next for Djokovic is either 28th seed Jeremy Chardy or qualifier Jan-Lennard Struff. Chary and Struff had split the first two sets and are currently stuck in the third set. The match will resume on Friday.

Despite Reynolds’ efforts, Djokovic was just too good and focused on the match with the Serb winning 91 percent of his first service points.

Reynolds’ exit means that there’s no more American men left on the draw starting on the third round. There were 11 Americans on the draw entering the Wimbledon Championships.

Djokovic is the only former Wimbledon champion left on the men’s draw following the early exits of defending winner Roger Federer, 2008 and 2010 champion Rafael Nadal and 2002 titlist LLeyton Hewitt. Djokovic won the Wimbledon title in 2011.
