Rafael Nadal beats top-ranked Novak Djokovic to reach eighth French Open final

World number four Rafael Nadal came back just in time in the fifth set to beat top-ranked Novak Djokovic 6-4, 3-6, 6-1, 6-7, 9-7 to reach his eighth Roland Garros final. As how it goes in his past seven outings, the Spaniard went on to win the title. The question is, can he do it for the eighth time on Sunday? Chances are he might since he will be facing a first time Roland Garros finalist – either compatriot David Ferrer or Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.

The tennis viewers worldwide were treated with a dramatic five-set thriller between the two juggernauts of the sport today. Nadal drew first blood in the first set 4-6 but Djokovic evened the match by breaking back in the second at 6-3. Things seemed to favor Nadal in the third set with Djokovic only managing to win one game 6-1 and it seemed like Nadal is headed for a four-set victory. However, Djokovic has other ideas.

With Nadal serving for the match 6-5 in the fourth set, Djokovic regrouped just in time to break the Spaniard’s serve and forced a fifth set decider. With a clean slate at the fifth, anyone can gun for the win and it was the seven-time champion.

Djokovic was attempting to become the eighth male player to complete a rare Career Grand Slam with the French Open being the only title he has yet to win.
