As everyone already expected, Spain’s Rafael Nadal won his eighth Roland Garros title on Sunday with a straight sets win over compatriot David Ferrer 6-3, 6-2, 6-3. Though it was a straight sets win for Nadal, it was not easy as it seems as Ferrer produced some of his best tennis and made the younger Spaniard work hard for the title.
Despite having successfully defended the French Open title, Nadal will go down the world rankings on Monday at number five with Ferrer gaining ranking points for reaching the final. However, in the race for the year-end rankings, Nadal is at the top of the rankings.
