Rafael Nadal pulls out of Gerry Weber Open – Halle 2013

Eight-time Roland Garros champion Rafael Nadal has pulled out of the ATP 250 Gerry Weber Open in Halle, Germany, citing fatigue as the reason for having to skip this grasscourt event that starts a day after the conclusion of the French Open.

The Spaniard won a history-in-the-making eighth French Open title on Sunday, beating good friend and compatriot David Ferrer in straight sets.

“It is a pity and unfortunate that Rafael cannot come,” said Halle tournament director Ralf Weber in a statement. “But I understand his decision…his health is the top priority.”

Nadal has entered nine tournaments since his comeback from injury in February, reaching the final in all of those events. He’s won a whopping seven titles, including the French Open, and has assured himself the qualification for the year-end ATP World Tour Finals in London.
