Roger Federer wins 40th match at Gerry Weber Open

Five-time Gerry Weber Open champion Roger Federer opened his campaign at the ATP 250 grasscourt event in Halle on Wednesday with a straight sets 6-3, 6-3 victory over German wildcard Cedrik-Marcel Stebe. The win is also Federer’s 40th career victory at this event that he’s won five times in the past (2003-2006, 2008).

The Swiss superstar is still seeking his first tournament title for the 2013 season. He’s reached one final so far at the Rome Masters but lost to Rafael Nadal. Federer is optimistic that the second half of the season will be favorable for him. He’ll be entering the Wimbledon Championships later this month as the defending champion.
