Roger Federer wins first title of 2013 season in Halle

World number three Roger Federer finally lifted his first title of the 2013 season at the Gerry Weber Open in Halle, Germany with a victory in the final against unseeded Mikhail Youzhny of Russia 6-7, 6-3, 6-4.

The top-seeded Swiss superstar seemed sluggish during the first half of the match but overcame those obstacles to beat a player that he has never lost to. He’s now 15-0 against Youzhny.

“I’ve won a lot but not so much in the last 10 months, although I feel I’d been playing well,” Federer said. “But the others were playing better.”

The 31-year old last won a title at the Cincinnati Masters in August last year. This is his sixth title victory in Halle. Four out of his seven Wimbledon titles were earned after winning the Gerry Weber Open.

Federer is now looking forward at next week’s Wimbledon Championships where he will be entering the event as the defending champion.
