Roger Federer: “You don’t panic at this point”

After his headline-grabbing second round loss at the Wimbledon Championships, Swiss superstar Roger Federer dealt with a barrage of questions as to how he will deal with such a loss especially that it happened very early on in the tournament, something that hasn’t happened in a decade.

“You don’t panic at this point, that’s clear,” Federer said

“You just go back to work and come back stronger really. It’s somewhat simple. It’s hard to do sometimes. But usually, I do turnarounds pretty good. I’m looking forward to what’s to come. I hope I can play a good summer, a good end to the season. This is clearly not what I was hoping for here today at this tournament.”

Federer’s second round loss at Wimbledon, a tournament he has won seven times, effectively ended one of the most impressive streaks in sports. The Swiss star has compiled 36 consecutive trips to the quarterfinals or better at Grand Slam events. The streak actually happened ten years ago at the very same event where Federer went on to win his first Grand Slam title at the All England Club.
