Serena Williams motivated to earn more Grand Slam titles because of Federer

World number one Serena Williams has just earned her 16th career Grand Slam singles title and she has no intention to stop the haul at this point, motivated to equal or better the number of Slam title wins of Roger Federer.

Williams earned Grand Slam number 16 at the Roland Garros 2013 tournament on Saturday by defeating second-ranked Maria Sharapova 6-4, 6-4.

“I thought Roger had 16 but he has 17, so I was like, ‘Honestly Roger, you have to win this much’.

“I guess he does and I’m happy for him obviously. It just keeps me going. It would be cool if I could be even with him.

“How awesome would it be if I could do it at Wimbledon. But the competition’s really tough.

“It’s not going to be easy for me. I’m going to have to get really serious about my game and be really focused to ever catch Roger Federer.”

Williams will be gunning for a sixth Wimbledon title when the grasscourt Slam event begins later this month.
