Serena Williams thinks she hasn’t reached her peak

Top-ranked Serena Williams said that she plans to walk out of professional tennis once she has reached her peak but thinks, after having claimed her 16th Grand Slam singles, that it hasn’t arrived yet.

“I want to go out in my peak. That’s my goal. But have I peaked yet?” Williams said. “I definitely want to continue my journey to get a few more.”

On Saturday, Williams won her second Roland Garros title by beating defending champion Maria Sharapova 6-4, 6-4. With a total of 16 Grand Slam singles titles, she now nearing to overtake tennis legends Martina Navratilova and Chris Evert who both have 18 Grand Slam titles and a rather long but not altogether impossible task to overtake Helen Wills Moody (19), Steffi Graf (22) and Margaret Court (24).

Williams could equal Navratilova and Evert if she manages to successfully defend Wimbledon and US Open titles this year.
