Serena Williams wins Wimbledon 2013: A foregone conclusion?

Tennis experts and analysts are already predicting the headlines in the ladies’ singles event of the Wimbledon 2013 Championships: Serena Williams wins her sixth Wimbledon title! It is mostly a foregone conclusion. They couldn’t be mocked for doing so considering what the American has accomplished.

Since her shock first round defeat in last year’s French Open, Williams turned things around and silenced her detractors and critics by winning the next two Grand Slam events in the calendar: Wimbledon and US Open. To further proclaim her greatness in the game, she won the singles gold medal (and doubles too) at the London Olympics. She also won the year-end championships title.

There’s no slowing down the American this 2013 season. Understandably, she lost her Australian Open bid in the quarterfinal stage to compatriot Sloane Stephens due to back injury. However, she stormed back in the next few months, winning consecutive titles in Miami, Charleston, Madrid, Rome and of course, the French Open where she reversed her fortunes from last year from a first round loss to a champion for the second time at the Roland Garros.

She will be entering the Wimbledon 2013 Championships as the top seed and defending champion. She’s riding on a 31-match winning streak. This is arguably her best event. Would it be unreasonable to make the above-mentioned headlines now?
