Andy Murray projected to increase net worth to $160 million by 2018

Wealth-X, the ultra high net worth intelligence company, revealed that two-time Grand Slam champion Andy Murray could have a net worth of up to $160 million by 2018, making him then the world’s second richest tennis player by then. He will hold that spot just behind Maria Sharapova and ahead of Serbian top-ranked Novak Djokovic.

According to the firm, current marquee players Roger Federer, Serena Williams and Venus Williams, who are in the world’s top ten richest tennis players this year are expected to retire from the sport by 2018 which gives younger players such as Murray, Sharapova and Djokovic taking over the top lists by then. Eleven-time Grand Slam winner Rafael Nadal, though also of the same age bracket with Djokovic and Murray, may not be playing by 2018 due to his troublesome knees.

Murray’s net worth as of this year is at $42 million. $36 million comes from sponsorships and prize money while the rest ($6 million) come from alternative assets including the Cromlix House Hotel situated in Scotland.

“If he keeps on his winning trajectory, we estimate the value of Brand Murray to rise significantly,” Wealth-X CEO Mykolas D. Rambus said.

“As older players retire, Murray has a strong chance of rising up our rank of the world’s wealthiest tennis players,” he added.
