Djokovic, Murray leads 102 direct entrants for US Open 2013

World number one Novak Djokovic and defending champion and number two Andy Murray lead a very competitive field of 102 ATP stars who received direct entries to the upcoming US Open Championships 2013 which begins on August 26.

There are a total of six former US Open champions in the field including the above-mentioned tennis stars. The other four are five-time winner Roger Federer, 2010 winner Rafael Nadal, 2009 champion Juan Martin Del Potro and 2001 titlist Lleyton Hewitt.

Murray won his first career Grand Slam title in last year’s US Open, becoming the British tennis player to achieve this feat in 76 years after defeating top-ranked Novak Djokovic of Serbia. He won his second Slam earlier this month when he defeated Djokovic once more.

Djokovic has reached the US Open final in the past three years, finishing as runner up to Rafael Nadal in 2010, winning the title in 2011 by beating Nadal and losing to Murray last year.

The US Open Men’s Singles Championship match will take place on September 9, Monday.
