Croatian Ivo Karlovic won his first ATP Tour title in five years after clinching the title victory at the inaugural Claro Open Colombia via a 6-3, 7-6 win over Colombian Alejandro Falla. The 34-year old pro was out of the tour for nearly three months this year due to viral meningitis.
“Only happiness, that after all these injuries and illnesses I was able to be back here,” he said.
Karlovic served an impressive total of 104 aces during the entire tournament. With his title-running run at Bogota, Karlovic gets $115,200 in prize money plus 250 ranking points, enough to make a comeback in the world’s top 100.
“It was an unbelievable week,” he said. “Everybody was really nice. I would like also to congratulate Alejandro for an unbelievable week and I would like to thank all the fans and sponsors. I hope I will be here next year.”
