Jerzy Janowicz sets historic win to reach Wimbledon semifinals

Poland’s Jerzy Janowicz, the 24th seed at the Wimbledon 2013 Championships, is just two matches away from winning his first Grand Slam title. The young tennis pro is just on his fifth Grand Slam event but has now reached a milestone of reaching the semifinal for the first time at a major.

Janowicz defeated compatriot Lukasz Kubot 7-5, 6-4, 6-4. By the end of the match, the two players hugged and swapped their shirts and everyone can see that Janowicz was in tears.

“Right now, I’m the happiest person in the world,” said Janowicz. “I made semi-final of Grand Slam, my best result ever. I have in my mind Paris Bercy last year… but this is a little bit different,” he added.

In his upcoming semifinal match against world number two Andy Murray, Janowicz said: “I have to be focused on my game. It will be a really cool match, a really nice atmosphere there. For sure, the crowd will not really help me, but we’ll see how it’s going to be. This is my first semi-final ever, so I don’t know what to expect.”
