Laura Robson books place in Wimbledon final 16

Britain’s Laura Robson became the first British female tennis player since 1998 to make it to the fourth round of the Wimbledon 2013 Championships. The 19-year old came back from a first set deficit to overcome New Zealand’s Marina Erakovic 1-6, 7-5, 6-3.

“I don’t think they had much to support in the first set,” Robson joked during the post-match interview regarding the crowd support at the Centre Court. “But they were amazing. I thought they helped a lot,” she added.

By virtue of reaching the fourth round, Robson is assured to become part of the world’s top 30 in the WTA Rankings by Monday, an achievement that was last achieved by a British female player in 1987.

“I didn’t even know about it until you (told) me,” she said.

“I just focus on, you know, playing my match, things like that. Things that actually matter,” she added.

Up next for Robson is Estonia’s Kaia Kanepi. Both will be battling for a place in the quarterfinals.
