Roger Federer suffers second round defeat at Suisse Open Gstaad

Roger Federer continues his streak of losses to lower-ranked players after his surprise second round exit at the ongoing Crédit Agricole Suisse Open Gstaad on Thursday, losing to Germany’s Daniel Brands 6-3, 6-4. It was sweet revenge for Brands, who lost to a tight three setter to Federer at the German Tennis Championships in Hamburg last week.

This is Brand’s fourth top ten win in his career and his current ranking of world number 55 will surely improve

Federer, 31, returned to Gstaad for the first time since 2004 where he won the title. The Swiss star opted to participate to two claycourt events following his second round exit at the Wimbledon Championships last month. He’s also playing with a larger 98 square-inch Wilson racquet which made its debut in Hamburg. It remains to be seen whether he will be continuing with the racquet during the US hardcourt season.
