Roger Federer to participate at Crédit Agricole Suisse Open Gstaad after Wimbledon loss

Swiss tennis superstar Roger Federer has announced that he will be taking part at the upcoming Crédit Agricole Suisse Open in Gstaad, Switzerland which will be staged from July 22 to 28. This will be Federer’s first tournament since his surprise second round loss at the Wimbledon 2013 Championships.

The Crédit Agricole Suisse Open Gstaad is an ATP 250 claycourt tournament and the last time Federer participated in this tournament was in 2004 where he went on to win the title.

The world number three stated via his official Twitter account: “I’ve decided to play #opengstaad. Very excited to play in Switzerland this summer. This was the event that gave me my first wild card in ’98!”

Federer entered the Wimbledon Championships as the defending champion and was aiming to win an unprecedented eighth title at the All England Club. However, his goals were dashed when he was eliminated by 116th-ranked Sergiy Stakhovsky in the second round. This also end a remarkable streak of 36 consecutive quarterfinal or better finish at Major tournaments.
