Slovakian Cibulkova overcomes higher-ranked Radwanska to win Bank Of the West Classic title

Dominika Cibulkova has not won a match against world number four Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland but on Sunday, she reversed her fortunes with a hard fought victory against the crafty Pole to win the Premier Bank of The West Classic 3-6, 6-4, 6-4. The Slovakian was 0-4 against Radwanska prior to their fifth meeting at Stanford.

“The big difference between Sydney and today was I made the first game – after I won that, I looked at my coach and thought, ‘Here we go, I’m here, it’s going to be good today,'” Cibulkova said, referring to her double bagel loss to Radwanska in Sydney earlier this year.

“It’s a big deal for me today. I had never beaten Aga before. She’s a really tough competitor and I had to earn every point myself. It was tough mentally and physically out there, so I’m really happy I won.”

The doubles title went to top seeds Raquel Kops-Jones and Abigail Spears after they defeated No.2 seeds Julia Goerges and Darija Jurak in the final, 62 76(4).
