Andy Murray looks forward to defending US Open title

World number 2 Andy Murray of Britain said that he is looking forward to defending the first Grand Slam title he won a year ago – the US Open. It can be remembered the Murray defeated Novak Djokovic in a pulsating five-set marathon final to finally break through and become a Grand Slam champion.

“For me it’s obviously going to be a different experience playing in a Grand Slam when you are defending champion. I’ve never been through that before, so I am excited about that. I’ll be interested to see how I respond. I would hope I would respond well to it, but it’s something new, so I can’t guarantee that,” Murray was quoted as saying.

“Obviously I work hard to try and get myself in the best possible shape for all of the Slams, and yeah, I mean, to go back to New York and have a good one there and put myself in a position to challenge for the title, that’s what I want to do, and it would be a good way to finish the year,” he added.

Murray won his second round of competitions at the Cincinnati Masters against Mikhail Youzhny. The two-time Cincinnati Masters champion saw his North American hardcourts campaign start on rocky terms after losing in the early rounds of the Montreal Masters 2013 last week.
