Bryan brothers secures year-end number one doubles team honors for the ninth time

American twin brothers Mike Bryan and Bob Bryan have once again clinched the year-end number one ranking for the ninth time in their career after winning the Cincinnati Masters title on Sunday. This is the 25th ATP Masters 1000 doubles title for the brothers.

No doubles team have secured the year-end number one ranking as early as August but the Bryans had made this a possible after they won the three Grand Slam titles so far this year – the Australian Open, French Open and Wimbledon. The twins are the defending champions at the US Open and they also won the London Olympics doubles gold medal, which makes them the first team in this sport’s history to hold all of the four Grand Slam majors and the Olympic gold medal at the same time.

Aside from the aforementioned wins, the brothers also won titles in Sydney, Memphis, Indian Wells, Madrid, Rome and Queen’s. They also reached the finals in Houston and Monte Carlo.

“To clinch the year-end No. 1 ranking this early in the season is a dream come true,” said Bob Bryan. “It’s always our ultimate goal starting out each season and this will give us great confidence going into New York. There is still a lot of tennis left and we want to keep our foot on the gas.”
