Djokovic supports Troicki’s innocence over doping violation

World number one Novak Djokovic is one of the high profile players that supported the innocence of his compatriot Viktor Troicki over alleged doping violation.

Troicki was handed with an 18-month ban after he refused to provide a blood sample at the Monte Carlo Masters earlier this year. The Serbian defended himself saying that he wasn’t feeling well after the match but managed to provide a urine sample and the blood sample was submitted the next day.

“We’re not sure what’s going to happen with Viktor,” Djokovic said. The top-ranked Serbian said he’s not sure if Troicki can compete at the Davis Cup semifinal match in September.

“We all give him big support because he’s definitely innocent. Hopefully he is going to be able to be on the court very soon,” he added.

The ITF did not accept Troicki’s explanation. However, Troicki can still appeal the decision via the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
