Djokovic vs Murray US Open final not possible in 2013, Djokovic vs Nadal is

The highly anticipated Novak Djokovic vs Andy Murray US Open 2013 final is not going to take place. However, should they manage to beat their opponents along the way, these two high profile tennis stars could potentially meet at the US Open 2013 semifinals. The US Open begins on August 26 and concludes on September 9, Monday.

Last year, Djokovic and Murray slugged it out for the US Open title with Murray prevailing after a marathon five-set match and eventually earning his first Grand Slam singles title. Top-ranked Novak Djokovic is raring to avenge the defeat but this would happen not in the title bout, but in a penultimate match. Djokovic’s potential final opponent is Rafael Nadal, currently ranked number two in the world and seeded second in New York.

Djokovic is still a heavy favorite at the Big Apple after reaching the final at the US Open for the past three years, winning it in 2011 with a victory over Rafael Nadal. The Serbian world number one will face Richard Berankis of Lithuania in the opening round. He could potentially meet 25th seed Grigor Dimitrov of Bulgaria in the third round. it was Dimitrov who defeated Djokovic at the Madrid Open earlier this year.

Meanwhile, Murray will open his title defense against Frenchman Michael Llodra. This is expected to be an easy victory for the British tennis star, having beaten Llodra in all of their past three meetings. Murray, now ranked world number three, has had a disappointing run during the US Open Series, with third round exit in Montreal Masters and quarterfinal loss at the Cincinnati Masters. He will still be a heavy favorite at this hardcourt event.
