Granollers wins fourth career ATP title at Kitzbühel

Marcel Granollers overcame a bagel start to win the bet-at-home Cup Kitzbühel title on Saturday. The Spaniard outlasted Argentina’s Juan Monaco 0-6, 7-6, 6-4 in a match that lasted more than two hours. This is Granollers fourth career ATP World Tour title.

“Today I was half on my way to the airport, but I kept on fighting and started to play better in the middle of the second set,” Granollers said.

The 53rd-ranked Granollers is assured to make a return to the world’s top 40 once the ATP Rankings are updated on Monday. He earned €74,000 in prize money plus 250 ranking points. His career high ranking was world number 19 which he achieved in July last year.

“But until you lose the last point, you are still standing and I kept on going. I got probably more nervous than usual when I had to close the match at 5-3 in the third, but it’s normal to get that way in a final. I played very well after that and I did it. I came into this week playing well so I knew I could do something here,” he said.
