John Isner moves to number 14 in rankings after Cincinnati Masters runner-up finish

Despite the loss, American tennis player John Isner still has something to be happy about.

This week, there were no American male tennis players in the world’s top 20, the first of its kind since the inception of computer rankings. However, Isner made sure that the slump will just last a week following his impressive run at the Cincinnati Masters.

The American will move to world number 14 after reaching the final. He was ranked 22nd prior to the Cincinnati event.

“I thought I actually played very well, but unfortunately for me I ran up against one of the – in my opinion – one of the greatest tennis players of all time,” Isner said after the match. “I beat three Top 10 guys,” he added.

Isner ousted new world number ten Milos Raonic, world number one Novak Djokovic and world number seven Juan Martin Del Potro on his way to the final. His loss to Rafael Nadal was a close one at 6-7, 6-7.
