The upcoming match between Juan Martin Del Potro and Lleyton Hewitt is a battle between two former US Open champions.
Del Potro defeated Guillermo Garcia-Lopez of Spain 6-3, 6-7(5), 6-4, 7-6(7) on Wednesday in a match that was delayed for several hours due to heavy rain.
“I felt good because I won the big battle for the first round,” he said. “I think I was lucky maybe in the fourth set when I come back after being break down. But I’m okay. I feel good with my level. My forehand was good. My serve improved since the last tournament. That’s important.”
Del Potro won the US Open in 2009 after defeating Roger Federer. Meanwhile, Hewitt won the title in 2001 with a victory over Pete Sampras back then.
They’re currently 2-2 in head to head series.
