Maria Sharapova’s ranking after US Open 2013 will still be number three

The ranking of Russian tennis superstar Maria Sharapova will almost certainly remain number three by the end of the US Open Tennis Championships 2013, thanks to her solid performance in the first part of the year.

Sharapova reached the semifinals of the US Open in 2012, meaning she has accumulated 720 ranking points. With her non-participation at this event. She will lose those points and her ranking points will go down to 8,046.

Fourth-ranked Agnieszka Radwanska still has a slight chance of overtaking Maria Sharapova in the rankings. The Pole will have to win the US Open title in order to edge Sharapova in the rankings. Radwanska reached the fourth round last year, thus accumulating 180 points. If she wins the US Open, she will gain 1,820 which can be added to her current haul of 6,335 for a total of 8,155.
