Max Mirnyi to be featured in BelarusPost stamp

Belarussian Max Mirnyi will be featured on a stamp as a way to honor his achievements for his home country, just like tennis superstars Roger Federer and Andy Murray were in their respective countries.

Reports revealed that BelarusPost will be featuring Mirnyi in a limited-edition stamp which will be released starting on Wednesday, August 14.

Mirnyi, playing mostly in doubles events, won the Olympic gold medal in London last year in the mixed doubles with Victoria Azarenka. The duo defeated British duo Andy Murray and Laura Robson. The Belarussian stamp will commemorate the Mirnyi-Azarenka success.

“It was the biggest moment for the country at the time,” Mirnyi said in an interview with ATPWorldTour.com. “Everyone was closely watching the progress of the Olympic Games. In this particular Olympics, there was only one other gold medal for Belarus, so our progress at Wimbledon was watched very closely. The final was very highly televised and it was a great audience watching it and supporting us. It was a great feeling.”

Mirnyi is a six-time Grand Slam doubles titlist.
