Milos Raonic to apologize personally to Juan Martin Del Potro regarding net-touching incident

World number 10 Milos Raonic of Canada said that he’s planning to personally apologize to Juan Martin Del Potro in connection with the controversial net-touching incident at Montreal Masters third round last week. The Canadian went on to win the match against Del Potro of Argentina.

“I didn’t have the opportunity until really the last two days to think about it that much. It’s something that I feel sorry about and something I want to apologize to Juan when I see him here,” Raonic said. “I don’t think I dealt with that the right way,”

Both Raonic and Del Potro are participating in this week’s Cincinnati Masters tournament together with the world’s top players.

“I made a mistake in the spur of the moment, I guess because I hadn’t been faced with it before,” Raonic said. “I’m disappointed with myself how I dealt with it, and it’s something I learned a lot from.”

After the controversial third round match, Raonic would go on to reach the final where he lost to Rafael Nadal. The runner-up finish propelled his ranking to number ten. He became the first Canadian male tennis player to be part of the elite top ten.
