Novak Djokovic gets extra motivation to win Cincinnati Masters, aims to complete Career Golden Masters

World number one Novak Djokovic is currently in Ohio this week for the Cincinnati Masters 2013 tournament and he is raring to give his best shot at this hardcourt event since he’s aiming for a historic feat by the conclusion of this week.

Djokovic could very well complete his set of all nine ATP World Tour Masters 1000 titles once he wins the Cincinnati Masters, an event that he’s finished runner-up four times in the past, including last year where he lost to Swiss star Roger Federer. Should he win the title, he will have completed a newly-named Career Golden Masters.

“The fact that I have an opportunity to make history in the sport that I’m playing that I love is incredible,” he said. “This is just another extra motivation for me to try to do the best that I can and reach the, hopefully, final stages of this event. Again, it’s a long week and it’s different conditions from what we played last week. Working hard on the practice courts to get ready. Hopefully, I can get the best out of this tournament.”

The top-ranked Serbian began his campaign at the North American hardcourt season at the Montreal Masters, where he was a two-time defending champion. However, he fell short last week when he lost in the semifinals to eventual champion Rafael Nadal in a very close third set tie-break.

“Looking at the match that we had a few days ago, I think it was decided by just a few points,” said Djokovic. “There was no difference in the previous matches we had – most of them – in the last few years. 2011 I was winning most of them; now he’s winning. It’s a course of life.”
