Rafael Nadal ranks number one at US Open Series, Isner can regain lead with good Winston-Salem result

Spain’s Rafael Nadal now leads the US Open Series 2013 standings following his win at the Cincinnati Masters 2013. With his Montreal Masters win last week, Nadal has accumulated a total of 200 points. In second place is erstwhile leader John Isner with 185 points. However, the American can regain the lead if he posts good results at the Winston-Salem Open which begins on August 19. Isner is a two-time defending champion at this hardcourt event which concludes the series. The US Open begins on August 26.

Based on the table, Isner needs to reach the semifinals or better at Winston-Salem to grab the solo lead in the US Open Series. A quarterfinal finish will see him earn 15 points which will tie him with Nadal.

The winner of the US Open Series will have a chance to earn an additional $1 million if he wins the US Open. The winner’s prize money this year at the US Open is $2.6 million and an additional $1 million would mean a record payout of $3.6 million.

Update: John Isner has pulled out of the Winston-Salem tournament which means that Rafael Nadal is the official winner of the US Open Series 2013.
