Rafael Nadal reigns supreme in Montreal, beats Raonic to secure 25th Masters title

Rafael Nadal of Spain acquired his 25th career ATP Tour Masters 1000 title on Sunday after he defeated Canada’s Milos Raonic 6-2, 6-2 in the final of the Rogers Cup tournament in Montreal.

The win further increases Nadal’s chances of snagging the year-end number one ranking after he defeated two-time defending champion Novak Djokovic in the semifinals. The Spaniard pocketed $547,300 plus 1,000 ranking points. Nadal now moves to second place at the ongoing Emirates Airline US Open Series standings while Raonic captures fourth place.

This is Nadal’s third title in Canada after winning in 2005 Montreal Masters (defeated Andre Agassi) and 2007 Toronto Masters (defeated Nicolas Kiefer). This is his fourth Masters title of the year, having won the titles in Indian Wells, Madrid and Rome. This is his eighth title overall this 2013 season.
