Rafael Nadal wins the US Open Series 2013 men’s title

World number two Rafael Nadal secured the US Open Series 2013 men’s title on Monday, August 19 after John Isner announced that he will be pulling out of the Winston-Salem Open in North Carolina. Isner had the chance to overtake Nadal in the standings if he reaches semifinals or better at this final warm-up event for the US Open. Nadal secured 200 points even though he only joined 2 events covered by the US Open Series. He won the prestigious ATP 1000 Masters events in Montreal and Cincinnati which have an equivalent of 100 points each.

With this victory, Nadal will have a chance to take home an additional $1 million if he wins the US Open 2013 men’s singles title. With the winner’s already at $2.6 million, Nadal can get home up to $3.6 million if he goes home with his 12th Grand Slam title in New York.

Isner can get up to $500,000 additional cash prize if he wins the US Open title. Third placer Juan Martin Del Potro can get $250,000 in bonus prize if he wins his second US Open title this year.

The women’s title was won by Serena Williams, followed by Victoria Azarenka and Agnieszka Radwanska.
