Tommy Haas of Germany is currently ranked 13th in the world and a deep run at the US Open could catapult him back to the world’s top ten. He has reached a career-high ranking of number two back in May 2002. France’s Paul-Henri Mathieu is currently ranked 107th in the world.
This will be the third Haas vs Mathieu match on tour. Surprisingly, Mathieu leads their head-to-head series at 2-0 but these two matches were way back in 2005.
