US Open 2013 singles champions to get record high $2.6 million each

The winners of the 2013 US Open singles event will each get a record high prize money of $2.6 million each.

The move was part of the across-the-board prize money increase at the hardcourt Grand Slam event in New York. This was stated by the US Tennis Association (USTA) on Wednesday.

The total base prize money for this year’s US Open will be $34.3 million. Here’s the breakdown of the prize money by round:

Winner: $2.6 million (37% increase)
Runner-up: $1.3 million (37% increase)
Semifinalist: $650,000 ( 37% increase)
Quarterfinalist: $325,000 (37% increase)
Round of 16: $165,000 (38% increase)
Round of 32: $93,000 (43% increase)
Round of 64: $53,000 (43% increase)
Round of 128: $32,000 (39% increase)

The prize money for the qualifying tournament has also increased by 37.5% or $1.4 million, the prize money for men’s and women’s doubles events have increased by 12.7%.

The 2013 US Open will begin on August 26.
