World number one Serena Williams will be entering the US Open 2013 Championships as the defending champion and as the top seed. The American is the overwhelming favorite to win her 17th Grand Slam title in New York as evidenced by her eight-title haul so far this season, including a title run at Roland Garros.
Williams will be raring to produce her best tennis following a tough three set loss at the Cincinnati Open final to number two Victoria Azarenka. If the seedings hold, then Williams and Azarenka could once again meet in the final, the same with last year’s. World number seven Marion Bartoli gives up her seeding and place at the US Open by virtue of having announced her retirement from professional tennis last week.
