World number two Victoria Azarenka said that even though it is tough to compete against world number one Serena Williams, the Belarussian still enjoys those encounters, saying that she enjoyed those matches the most among all players at the WTA Tour.
“Oh, that’s a tough one. There are so many players that I’ve played already. But one of my toughest competitions has always been Serena. I feel like our matches make me grow. So I choose her. Growth in terms of being a tennis player, pushing my limits, and assessing what you have to do to be at the top of the game. You always take a lot more from losses, and I’ve lost quite a few to her. She always makes me grow,” she said at this week’s Cincinnati Open.
Azarenka lags behind in their head-to-head series with only 2 wins against 12 losses to the American world number one.
