Andy Murray bestowed with Man of the Year GQ Award

British tennis superstar Andy Murray was awarded the Man of the Year GQ Award on Tuesday night in London at the GQ Men of the Year Awards Ceremony. Murray was not present to receive the award as he’s still in New York competing at the US Open Tennis Championships.

“I am proud to have won a GQ Man of the Year Award, for Outstanding Achievement,” said Murray. “I’m currently out playing in the US Open in NYC, so couldn’t attend the awards tonight in London, but happy to have won and thanks to all at GQ Awards.”

Murray won his first career Grand Slam title at the US Open last year and went on to clinch his second at the Wimbledon Championships last July, effectively breaking the drought for a homegrown men’s singles title in 77 years at the grasscourt Slam event. Murray defeated top-ranked Novak Djokovic in last year’s final in New York and once again defeated the Serb at the Wimbledon final this year. Aside from the above-mentioned award, Murray was honored with an OBE for service for tennis, a UK Royal Mail issued commemorative stamps and the Laureus World Breakthrough of the Year Award.
