Andy Murray may represent Scotland at 2016 Rio Olympics

World number three Andy Murray may not be playing for Great Britain at the 2016 Rio Olympics but rather for an independent country of Scotland.

According to reports, Scotland is scheduled to vote whether to become an independent nation next year. If this happens, Murray could be playing for Team Scotland in 2006 Olympics.

There have been mixed reactions as whether Scotland is prepared to become an independent nation. In an athlete’s point of view, Scotland lacks the facilities and funding to support its players. However, Scotland’s Sports Minister Shona Robison gave an assurance.

“We’re comfortable and assured Scotland will have its own Olympic and Paralympic team. It will bring many benefits,” she was quoted as saying.
