Andy Murray to play in Davis Cup tie versus Croatia

World number three Andy Murray will take part in the upcoming Davis Cup World Group play-off between his home nation Great Britain versus Croatia. The Davis Cup Great Britain vs Croatia rubber will take place from September 13 to 15 in Umag, Croatia and matches will be contested on claycourts.

Last April, Great Britain upset Russia. Back then, Murray missed the tie and it was lower-ranked players Dan Evans, Colin Fleming, James Ward and Jonny Marray who secured the victory. The win gave the team a chance to play for a spot in the elite World Group for next year. The last time Great Britain was in the World Group was back in 2008.

“Croatia are former winners of the Davis Cup and currently ranked number 11 in the world, but as we proved in Coventry back in April, we can upset the odds,” said Great Britain Davis Cup captain Leon Smith.

“The recent success of our players has inspired more people into our sport and this is another great opportunity to do just that” he added.
