Andy Murray says he will be “back” stronger on tour

World number three Andy Murray acknowledged the overwhelming support by the public after his team announced that he will be having a surgery to correct a minor problem on his back on Monday.

On his official Facebook page, Murray posted:

Thanks so much for all the nice messages today… Having operation on monday.. Will let everyone know how it goes.. Ill be “back” stronger“.

This development means that Murray may most likely miss the rest of the 2013 season. He already pulled out of the Asian swing of tennis tournament starting with the Thailand Open 2013 tournament which begins on Monday, September 23. He will be missing the Shanghai Rolex Masters as well where he was a runner-up a year ago.

It is still a question whether he’ll be well enough to compete at other top-tier tennis events in the latter part of October such as the Paris Masters and the ATP World Tour Finals, which he already qualified for.

Murray’s team released this statement:

“Next week Andy is set to undergo minor back surgery in an effort to clear up a long-standing back problem. He will definitely miss tournaments in Bangkok, Tokyo and Shanghai. The problem flared up during the Italian Open this year when Andy was forced to retire and he sought advice from a range of specialists. After recently playing on hard courts and clay Andy once again sought medical advice about solving the issue once and for all. The aim is to be fully fit for the new season.”
