Bojana Jovanovski secures Tashkent Open 2013 title

Bojana Jovanovski ended her fairytake run at the Tashkent Open by capturing the title. The young WTA star defeated Belarusian Olga Govortsova 46 75 76(3) in a match that lasted nearly three hours. Even though she was the top seed, Jovanovski had to play the qualifying rounds the past weekend for having missed the main draw cut-off date.

“Anybody could have won this match today,” Jovanovski said after the match. “It was a close match and all credit to Olga for an incredible battle. I’m so happy, and I didn’t really believe I could do it today. I have to thank all the people who made this possible, including my biggest supporter – my father, and also to my physical coach, who has really improved my movement on the court this year.

“I’ve had a tough year. I haven’t had too many matches, so it was good that I had to play the qualies. It’s great to finish this week on a good note. This title means a lot to me. I’ll be back next year.”

Govortsova acknowledged that her opponent played better in their title match.

“Bojana played very well today,” she said. “She was moving well and hitting the ball really hard out there. Congratulations to her for a good win.”

This is Jovanovski’s second WTA title with her first being at the Baku Cup in 2012. Govortsova reached her fourth WTA final but has yet to win a title.

The doubles event was won by top-seeded Yaroslava Shvedova and Timea Babos.
