David Ferrer ends Tipsarevic run, reaches US Open quarterfinals

World number four David Ferrer reached his second straight US Open quarterfinal after a 7-6(2), 3-6, 7-5, 7-6(3) victory over 18th-seed Serbian Janko Tipsarevic. The match lasted nearly four hours. Ferrer is now 5-1 in head to head series against Tipsarevic, a former top ten player.

Ferrer reached the US Open semifinals last year and seemed headed that path. He will next face eighth-seed Richard Gasquet of France who outlasted 10th seed Milos Raonic of Canada in the other fourth round match.
