Former top 20 Igor Andreev to retire by end of 2013 season

Former top 20 tennis pro Igor Andreev of Russia announced that he will be retiring from professional tennis by the end of the 2013 season. The 30-year old has been plagued by a number of injuries for the past few years. One of Andreev’s memorable runs on tour was a quarterfinal finish at the French Open in 2007 plus three ATP World Tour title wins.

Andreev was ranked as high as number 18 in the world. He’s currently ranked 991st in the world and his only tour-level match this season was a Wimbledon first round loss to Lukasz Kubot of Poland.

“This is my last year due to various factors and circumstances,” Andreev said in an interview with NTV-Plus. “During the last few years there have been a lot of injuries, which played a decisive role. But life goes on, I want to stay in the sport.”
